This year TC Communications attended UTC 2015 in Atlanta, GA. TC featured its Leased Line Replacement solution, Legacy Preservation, Radio Over IP (with SNV-12), including a collaborative presentation of Teleprotection Over IP solution.

Malco Power Design Co Inc. and TC Communications presented Texas-New Mexico Power's experience using the TC's JumboSwitch 1U chassis solution with a C37.94 card (model TC3846-2) from testing to deployment.

See below for the video interview with Joel Davis, Malco's Principal Engineer. Also visit TC's YouTube channel for other informative videos.

Joel Davis - Malco Power Design Co. Inc.
A registered Professional Engineer, Joel Davis is a Principal Engineer for Malco Power Design, a Houston, Texas area consulting firm specializing in Electrical Protection/Teleprotection System Design. Mr. Davis holds a B.S. Degree in Electrical Power System Engineering from New Mexico State University's Klipsch School. Prior to Malco, he worked at PNM Resources System Protection for eight years where he was responsible for protection system and teleprotection system design.

  • Teleprotection over IP
Addressing Latency Concerns: TC's latency demonstration showed delays less than 5msec (end-to-end) between 2 relays in a layer 2 Ethernet network.
TDM vs. Packet networks: Using water flow and buckets, TC's "Pal" animation demonstrated how adaptive relay clock with Phase Lock Loop help maintain consistent data flow between two locations.
  • Leased Line Replacement
The Radio over IP (RoIP) station demonstrated voting over IP using Raytheon's SNV-12 voter in conjunction with TC's popular 600 Ohm Analog-over-IP (TC3846-6) card. Analog radio over IP solutions are increasing in demand as fees for leased lines increase and the lines are slowly eliminated.
  • New Product 10G
TC's 10G Carrier Ethernet 2.0 Compliant JumboSwitch® made another appearance at UTC 2015, featuring 4 Ports of 1G SFPs, 4 Ports of 10/100/1000, and 4 Ports of 10G SFP+... and still more to come.
