Ethernet, Telephone & Data Multiplexer Optimizes Fiber Optic Networks

04/12/2005

A new Ethernet, Phone & Data multiplexer from TC Communications optimizes fiber optic cable usage by multiplexing one 10/100M Ethernet, four Telephone and, optionally, four channels of data over single mode or multimode fiber. A "one fiber," two-way communication option can double existing fiber usage.

The TC8520 converts 2-wire FXS to fiber optics on the telephone side with ring down capability and FXO on the PBX side. Because the TC8520 digitizes the analog signals (PCM), voice quality does not degrade over extended distances. Serial data interface options are RS-232, RS-422, TTL and Dry Contact. It also supports 2/4-wire analog (600ohm).

The Ethernet port auto-negotiates at 10/100M with full 10Mbps throughput and enables rate control in increments of 32Kbps. It is IEEE 802.3/802.3u/802.3x compliant. Setup, diagnostics and control is accessed via Serial Terminals, Telnet or SNMP management ports.

It supports distances to more than 100 km and offers Redundant power and optics, including automatic switchover features for maximum reliability. It is available “Industrial Hardened” (-40°C to 80°C) for extreme environments.

Typical applications include extending SDH/SONET backbones and Service Providers using existing fiber optic links to offer low cost Ethernet, Telephone & Data service.
