The TC2900 works in "poll-response" (also called Slave/Master) types of communication networks. RS-232 and RS-485 interfaces are independent and operate over single mode or multimode fiber.

Designed for Bus or String topologies, the TC2900 is often used to interconnect Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) in Utility substation SCADA Networks that require multiple channels. It is also used for similar connectivity applications in Traffic Control, Industrial Process Control and Security System fiber optic networks.
